Introducing Daniel Crichton

06 May Introducing Daniel Crichton

We all have one of those mates whose seems to be able to turn his hand to anything and is better than you at it in a matter of days, while you’ve been practicing for years. There’s an element of pure admiration that someone can be so talented and then there’s an element of pure hatred spawned from jealousy! Daniel Crichton is one such guy…but we love him really…and his artwork, which you can check out in Bread & Bones.

Woody Guthrie

I met Dan long before he started drawing, through a mate living in Edinburgh, and similarly it was completely by chance that art ended up playing a part of Dan’s life. “I didn’t really get into art until about two or three years ago when, despite not having any experience or knowledge of art, I managed to blag a job working in the art shop at the Edinburgh College of Art for about eight months. I enjoyed working at the shop and it made me want to draw so I bought some supplies and started illustrating. I’m a musician and most of the work I have done has revolved around designing artwork for different bands that me and my friends play in.”

Weezer T-Shirt

You can see a musical theme running through with Woody Guthrie and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo above and this led to Dan’s most recent commission where he produced 14 posters for Record Store Day, that were displayed across 12 shops in the UK.

Sly Stone

Godzilla

But the psychedelic fonts of Dan’s music posters are soon going to be making their way to a new canvas, in the shape of a children’s book, which will hopefully the closest the lil readers come to the experience of shrooms for a few years yet.

Carbon Poster

There’s also a whole host of bands and musical projects that Dan’s involved in and playing guitar with like Miasma, whose video is below, supporting Rachael Cormack, as well as releasing an album with Edinburgh’s up and comers, The Micro Band. Then there’s the EP he’s working on with Alex Auldsmith…we could go on. All you need to know is that Dan is a bloody busy man and far too talented for our liking. You can check out more of his stuff on Tumblr, Facebook and on instagram @dancrichton89.
