Guest Playlist – Sketchy Inc.

03 Apr Guest Playlist – Sketchy Inc.

For the next two weeks we’re handing our sound system over to Sketchy Inc. – one of our favourite artists, with one of the most unique styles in the country. We ba-loddy love this guy’s art and his musical taste ain’t half bad either. Here’s the man himself.

Tell us about yourself squire…

Well I’m an artist working out of my studio in Dublin. I specialise in print mostly digital print but recently have been focusing on pen and paper work. I’m working on a series now that I’m calling ‘Remastered’ where I source old prints and paintings of traditional landscapes and  repaint them in my style adding fluorescent skies and sketchy characters. I’ve got loads of projects coming up this year that I’m really excited about.

I enjoy long walks on the beach…

What’s your favourite thing about Dublin at the moment?

Where to start?… I think the atmosphere in Dublin at the moment is electric. There are so many new places opening and so many artists who are coming out of the shadows now that we are coming out of recession. I love places such as your good selves are supporting Irish art and the creative scene.

Making something out of nothing. Right now me and my buddy Darren are making a retro arcade game table out of an old T.V and some things I found in my shed.

Collecting things. I collect everything – cameras, whiskeys, prints, designer collectables (Kid Robot). I’m also addicted to Instagram.

I think I have a problem….

Right sir, what do have to recommend to us?

I use an app called Untappd – it’s for rating beers and it’s really good for remembering what beers you liked and which ones to avoid. You can see what beers is most drank in your local and what your friends are drinking. On that note I would also recommend Galway Bay Brewery, some damn good beers.

This is just a pretty random mix of stuff I listen to in my studio and songs I love to hear on a night out. These are in no particular order:

Julian Casablancas – 11th Dimension

Death from Above – Black History Month

Queens of the Stone Age – The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret

David Bowie – The Man Who Sold the World

Justice – Dance

Incubus – Talk Shows on Mute

Blackalicious – Alphabet Aerobics (I’ve been trying to learn the lyrics for years )

Arrested Development – People Everyday

Joy Division – Transmission

Vampire Weekend – Cape Cod

Postal Service – Such Greats Heights

Interpol – Obstacle 1

The Shins – New Slang

Band Of Horses – The Funeral

Bombay Bicycle Club – Lights Out Words Gone

Stone Temple Pilots –  Plush

The National – Bloodbuzz Ohio
